Our Fruit of the Spirit nomenclature cards are perfect for the church, Sunday school, Christian academy, or faith based homeschool. We have combined the much loved educational strategies of Maria Montessori with one of the most cherished memory verses of all time.
Galations 5:22,23 will come to life for your student of any age with beautiful real world images. The fruit of the spirit doesn't grow on trees, but out of our hearts, seen in our actions. I feel the deep meaning of the verse is often obscured by words pasted on Bananas and apples that don't at all illustrate the meaning of the text. That is why I have chosen instead to illustrate each character trait with images of hands depicting various relatable tasks. The connections between the images shown and the morality lesson of the scripture is easily grasped by toddlers and teens alike.
What is great about the Montessori Method is that it encourages independent learning. Once the process is illustrated, students of any age can complete the activity entirely self directed. The answer card will allow children to check their work providing opportunity for self correction. Self discipline is as valued in the world of Montessori education as it is in the Christian Church. This is what makes the pairing of these two disciplines so Ideal.
Lay out the control cards and show the student how to match it to the picture card, then to the label card. Later, students can complete the lesson with the picture and label cards; laying the control cards face down. Once the work is complete, they then flip over the stack of control cards to check their own work.
*Children who are not yet reading on their own, can have words read to them by an adult or match what the word looks like. The Image serves to jog their memory of the lesson previously given and they immediately make the association. Even if they can't read the word, they know the meaning of the image.
In our homeschool, we use 3 part nomenclature cards daily for various types of memorization work. The kids each have one-on-one time and self directed time in turn. These activities allow the children independence and give them a sense of control over their educational path, as they choose and complete each activity themselves. If I can't find cards or activities to my liking featuring the lesson I wish to provide, I make them myself. When I do, I make them available to you and your student to enjoy!
